If you are a first-time reader, welcome to Lora and Erics RV Adventure Blog. You can read about us at http://www.LoraandEricsRVAdventure.com. We started in December 2017 with a goal to complete 49 states before heading home to North Carolina.
Due to limited access to internet service and Verizon Hotspot in Canada and Alaska we will be adding photos as we can. In the mean time we will continue to provide our RV adventure at each phase of our RV adventure in text.
After years if seeing opportunities to pass between of fingers, Lora and I both agree we found a gem of a property butted up against state and federal land by 3 sides in Salcha, Alaska. The 2 lots are 0.76 acres each. We have on lot partially cleared. There is also a dry camp little house on the property.
The distance from Riverview RV Park in North Pole, AK to our Salcha Homestead is 37.5 miles (42 minutes).

Prior to our arrival onto the property we trim some branches at the entrance in order to get the camper onto the lot. We cut the locks at the entrance and carefully maneuver the truck and camper onto the lot. We pull behind the little house and set up our new homestead. We will be boondocking until we leave to our next destination.
We never had a chance to access the little house. We first try to open the door by drilling out the lock. It looked so easy on youtube. After that failed, we found another way.
The inside is a decent size. The walls and floors are unfinished. There is a woodstove screwed into the floor. The lot is large enough for a bed mattress or storage. There is a smell of urine. The counters and shelves are plywood constructed. The potential is positive.
We make a to do list of things to do and make out first trip of many to Home Depot and Lowe's in Fairbanks, AK. We work from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm each day.
We replace the door, add a roof over the porch, add cedar wall panels on the inside, and purchase a 10' x 20' Shipping Container.
We learn our children staying rent free in our home in NC no longer want live there. We agreed after a year of rent and nearly bill free we were asking that they begin to pay a rent and utilities. They opted move out instead.
This has changed our goal of 49 States before heading home. We had already booked airline tickets from Arizona to North Carolina for Thanksgiving we will now forfeit.
We make a plan to be back in NC by Oct 1st. We are approximately 4000 miles from Nashville, NC from Salcha, AK. The total hours shows 79 hours.
We complete everything we want by September 8th. The next day we go to St. Matthews for mass. Mother Betty is planning to visit after church to bless the homestead. We have lunch are Salchaket Road House Restaurant.
We give Mother Betty keys to the homestead and say our goodbyes till next spring. We pack up the site, secure the homestead and leave on our first leg of our journey back to North Carolina.
We leave at 5:00 pm from Salcha, AK with a goal to make it to Tok RV Village Campground in Tok, AK by sunset.
